The Historic Reed House Opens Its Doors to the Public
The Reed House faces out onto Atlanta Road at 3080 Atlanta Road in the City of Smyrna
The Reed House was purchased by the City of Smyrna in order to preserve it from being demolished. The property underwent a long process of renovation and restoration and was officially opened at the grand opening event on December 11th, 2017. The community was invited to an open house event to come see the beautiful interior and exterior of the home and celebrate the completion of the project.
Members of the Reed family, for whom the house is named, were invited to attend the event and help cut the ribbon with Mayor Max Bacon.
The City had to make some renovations to make the house ADA compliant and worked with designers and the construction firm to ensure that the house’s character would be preserved while the interior was restored and some areas enhanced to make it a great space for the community to use and enjoy for generations.
Smyrna’s historic Reed House (circa 1910) sits on 3.6 acres of landscaped property. A new crushed slate parking lot was also constructed to allow for large events.
At more than 4,500 square feet, the stunning two-story home is considered to be a combination of Queen Ann and Arts & Crafts styles of architecture.
Designed by the world-renowned architect Leila Ross Wilburn, among its many unique features are a large 50’ x 15’ front porch, a distinctive porte co-chere (drive-under carriage gate), numerous leaded glass windows, oak paneled interior walls, window seats, a large warming kitchen, room for a DJ/dancing and much more. The upstairs rooms can be used as dressing rooms or additional event space.
A Great Space for Events
With a maximum capacity of 135 guests, the Reed House will be perfect for many types of events.
It will be available for rent beginning February, 2018.
